How Much Does a Wedding Pianist Cost?

I know that when you first start planning a wedding, the "how much" is usually the very first question on the list. I completely understand why - you’re trying to build a budget for a day that has a lot of moving parts, and you’ve likely never had to book a professional wedding pianist before.

If you’ve been looking around, you’ve probably seen prices that range from £150 on a local listing to over £1,000 for a high-end agency performer. It can be confusing, so I wanted to share a bit of honest insight from my side of the piano about what you’re actually paying for and what you should expect to see in a wedding pianist quote.

The Realistic Price Range

In the UK, if you are looking for an experienced, professional wedding pianist, you should typically expect to pay between £390 and £650.

This usually breaks down into tiers depending on how much of the day you want covered. For example, my own packages start at £395 for the wedding ceremony alone, and move up to around £550 if you’d like music for both your ceremony and your wedding reception or wedding breakfast.

Why isn’t it £100?

I sometimes hear from couples who are surprised by a quote because they think it’s just "playing for an hour." But the performance on the day is actually only a small part of the work.

When you book a professional wedding pianist, you are mostly paying for the rehearsal time. For me, the aisle song is the most important piece of piano music for your wedding ceremony that I’ll play all year. I like to know that aisle song inside out - often memorising it - so that I can play with real feeling rather than just reading dots off a page.

Every aisle song arrangement is bespoke. Whether you want a Bridgerton-style cover of a modern pop song or a delicate version of a Ludovico Einaudi track, I spend hours in my studio making sure the timing is perfect for your walk down the aisle. You aren't just paying for a wedding piano player to show up; you’re paying for the peace of mind that your wedding piano music has been carefully prepared for your specific moment.

Travel, Equipment, and the "White Piano Look"

Logistics also play a part in the cost. Most professional wedding pianists will include their travel and their equipment in the fee. I’m based in Tadley, and regularly play at weddings across Berkshire, Hampshire and London, as well as Bristol, Bath and Swindon.

One thing that has become very popular recently - and something I prioritise - is the white baby grand piano shell. It gives that high-end, classic grand piano look but can be set up in almost any venue or even outdoors. These are expensive pieces of equipment to maintain and transport, and while some wedding piano players charge an additional fee for this, I include mine as part of the overall experience because I think the visual is just as important as the sound.

What should be included in your quote?

When you receive a quote, it should be transparent. A professional wedding pianist quote should ideally cover:

  • The rehearsal - learning and arranging your specific aisle song choices, and preparing everything so it feels effortless on the day.

  • The performance - performance time is for you to decide with your pianist, based on which parts of the day you’d like music for.

  • Equipment - a high-quality digital wedding piano setup, PA system, and a white baby grand piano shell if requested.

  • Assurance - Public Liability Insurance (PLI) and PAT testing certificates (many venues will ask for these).

A Final Thought on Value

At the end of the day, music is about atmosphere. Whether I’m playing for a small, intimate ceremony or a larger wedding reception, the aim is always the same - to create something that feels natural and memorable for you and your guests.

Choosing a wedding pianist you trust means you can stop thinking about the logistics and simply enjoy the moment when the music begins.

If you’re planning your wedding and are thinking about a wedding pianist, I’d be very happy to help.

I play at weddings across Berkshire, Hampshire, London, Bristol, Bath and Swindon, creating a relaxed, modern classical atmosphere inspired by artists like Ludovico Einaudi and Bridgerton-style arrangements.
